Closing out 2020 and entering a fresh new year 2021, my mind and body has had time to rest and turn into "soft clay" to be molded into a new and improved competitor.
If 2020 taught us anything, it's that things don’t always go as planned but we can adapt, reset, and embrace change. There’s always a way to get where you want to go; we just might have to go about it differently than we originally thought.
For me personally, my mentality and self-belief is the biggest weakness for me to overcome. Many times before I even step on the runway, I lack full confidence in my abilities. I fall victim to the comparison trap and sometimes feel so far behind in the heights I jump as compared to where I want to be on the world rankings. It can lead me to feel self-conscious about my worth as an athlete or what others think of me. Pretty stupid sounding, right? If I let doubt in my mind, that decreases my chances of succeeding. I already lose the competition before I even take my first step down the runway.
To fix this right away, the first thing that needs to change is for me to not care what others think. That's the quickest and most controllable difference I can be aware of and quickly shift my perspective. If I ever begin to feel worried about what others think, I just remind myself that I don't need the approval of others if I approve of what I am doing. What I'm doing is important. I am doing it because I choose to. It makes me happy and it helps me grow as a person. I am worthy and I am thankful to serve as a courageous example to others who may be afraid to take a leap and chase their innermost desires.
Changing and improving on the mental piece for me has the greatest potential for better results, since it is the heaviest weight I carry. Caring what others think of me is the smallest, most quickly changeable weakness in my mentality. I can already consider that as a work in progress, on the right track.
Now that we have taken care of that... we can build on the next, even more important piece!
Unwavering Self-belief/Confidence.
Oh yes, if we could master this, we can behold anything in the world we want. Seriously! That is a crazy thing to realize, but it is so true. Unfortunately as humans, we are not perfect.
My self-belief and confidence is growing, but it is not on that top-notch level yet. We've got a way to go to reach that point. Confidence is something unique to each individual. What makes you feel unstoppable? Do whatever that is. Harness that energy and go get whatever it is you want!
Attacking challenges and handling failure with grace is a sign of confidence. The more times you say yes to a challenge, the better you become at rising to the occasion. By practicing doing things out of your comfort level or abilities, the more you grow! Also, in handling these challenges, you may fail sometimes. But viewing failure as a stepping stone to get closer you want to be, rather than feeling dragged down by being less than you want makes a BIG difference. Keep a positive mentality and you will move in a positive direction with hard work and persistence. That is resilience! On the contrary, keep a negative attitude and you will head in a negative direction.
Where do you want to go? Visualize it. See it in your mind. Don't worry about what is "realistic" or not. DREAM it and you can do it!
