Training has been going really well this fall and we had our first jump session of the year yesterday. This is the latest I have ever started jumping and I think it's for the best. I've had plenty of time to reset from the odd COVID season and later summer competitions. I think a little break from vaulting has been good - both physically and mentally. Last year, I let a lot of doubt and fear get in my way. I struggled a bit and worked myself out of some things, learning a lot about myself along the way. I've made a lot of improvements over the past few months and now I'm in a good place to get back at it with a full tank of excitement and motivation.
Since we have a really solid base of training under our belts from a great first training cycle, we can carry that over to the runway. I'm happy to be healthy and able to focus on making my jump better, one jump at a time. Now that I know where my weaker tendencies are in my approach to practices and competitions from last year, I'm ready to show up to be my best this year.
Pole vaulting yesterday was so much fun and it was a great reminder of how much I love this sport. There is already such a notable difference in how I approach practices this year. My mind is much more clear and focused. I feel so much more prepared to tackle this year and am excited to enjoy the fun that comes with making big improvements!
