How do you spend your time? How do you like to choose to spend you time?
These are important questions to ask yourself and it's important that how you spend your time is aligned with what you like to do. You also want to be sure that how you spend your time is getting you closer to where you want to go.
All in all, we become experts in however we choose to spend the 24 hours we are given each day. First, you want to enjoy the work you do. It needs to give you purpose and fulfillment. And two, it is easier to become an expert when you focus on building skills in that specific area for a period of time.
This week, I have caught myself feeling tempted to chase a more prestigious career and more $$ due to some external and internal pressures to perform. I have caught myself pushing boundaries to sacrifice time spent on training activities for other career aspirations. In the end, this thought process really comes down to wanting to create this safety net in case I fail at this pole vault thing I spend most of my time and energy on.
Where I caught myself was with this thought - "what is the value of my time?" and faced with a clear choice - to be all in or dip one foot in the elite training lifestyle while I have another foot in a demanding job.
I was told by my biggest supporter, "unless you are ready to be 100% done with this (pole vault) thing, then you can go out and get whatever job you want. Until then, I don't have time for this. WE don't have time for this."
And they are right. I'm not done with this. I will go spend my time elsewhere when I am ready to do so. Until then, I have unfinished business left to handle. Watch me work and improve significantly this year but putting my mind and body to work optimally!
